I’ve been reading a blog called Seeds From My Garden the author has gotten together with the author of My Many Colored Days to co-host a writing project for women bloggers called “Women to Women.” Okay, I’m a tad (really) slow at getting this story done but I really wanted to join in so here goes!
You’ll find basically the same woman in this skin as you would have 25 years ago, my character traits, morals and values haven’t changed. Most of the time I don’t feel any different but I see some differences in the mirror and I don’t have the same stamina.
I can hardly believe that I have children who are in their twenties! How can that be? But it’s true!
I don’t mind getting older, I try to embrace it after all it’s inevitable. I think there have been some improvements to the woman in “this skin”; more wisdom, patience, self confidence and compassion. I’ve learned so much over the years and plan to continue learning and growing. I don’t let things rile, anger or annoy me like I used to. I’ve always been a sympathetic person, concerned for other’s misfortune and it’s grown stronger with the years. I wouldn’t trade anything for the self confidence I’ve gained. What is more painful than being filled with self doubt? And last but not least, it’s a blessing to have patience, with others and myself.
What have I learned? My parents influenced me in the most positive ways, more than I ever would have imagined 25 years ago. So, I hope that my wisdom, patience and compassion touch my own children in a similar way. Looks are only skin deep, it’s what’s inside a person that really counts. The older you get the faster time seems to go. Don’t forget to take time to smell the roses!

I’m so glad you joined in, no matter how late! It’s nice to hear that some rough edges can be smoothed with age, but that you remain who you really are!

I just found your post on this and I wanted to say thanks for joining in. It’s such a wonderful thing to have learned from our parents and then want to pass that on to our children. I like the idea of good parenting going down through the generations.
I hope we’ll see you on April 10.
