Welcome back, it's great to see you here again! Did you subscribe to my RSS feed? Thanks for visiting!
You can probably find a good number of articles and resources about “how to prospect or recruit” on the internet but the difference here is that I’m focusing on doing it in an ethical manner. By choosing to run your business with the highest ethics you will build trust and also demonstrate to your prospects how to behave as a professional.
The truth is the ability to prospect and recruit online is a real boon for those of us in the direct sales or network marketing industry. It has made it much easier to connect with prospects and build a large sales team. Since communicating through the internet is a lot different than communicating face to face, there are some things you should be doing as well as some things you shouldn’t while recruiting for your business opportunity.
Give your prospect the honest facts about the income potential that they can expect to have with your company. Answer all of their questions as truthfully as you can. It’s perfectly alright to share how excited you are about what you are selling. Just don’t try to make it sound like the network marketing or direct sales company that you represent, is the only company out there that is profitable. Honesty is the best policy, when ever you are communicating with your potential recruits.
Don’t be pushy in online communities such as forums and e-mail lists. For instance, if someone is looking for a company that offers bath and body products, don’t push them into uncomfortable discussions about joining your children’s toy company. You also can run the risk of getting in trouble for spamming if you post recruiting ads without keeping in mind the rules and regulations of any and all online communities you join.
Use your best manners and show respect. When you are at a county fair or a craft show would you stop at someone’s booth and try to recruit them? Probably not. If you saw my Watkins sign in my driveway would you come into my home and try to recruit me? I doubt it! So don’t go someone’s web site, collect their contact information and then try to recruit them. Chances are they won’t be happy to hear from you, especially if you call their toll free number.
Another thing to remember while recruiting online is to never put down other companies. I’m sorry but this is extremely disrespectful. You want to present yourself in a professional manner and that is not going to happen if you’re making statements like “You won’t make any money at all with Company X” or “Company B has such lousy products and the commissions are horrible.”
Develop a communication system to easily make yourself available to your online recruits, it can be through a toll free phone number, e-mail, forums, chat rooms, or instant messaging or all of the above. Nothing would be worse than to have wonderful conversations through e-mail with a potential sponsor and then never hear from them again once you’ve signed up. Keep in mind, if you are not prepared to offer a certain level of support to your online recruits, you are not likely to be very successful building a team in this manner.
These are just a few of the things for you to keep in mind when you are ethically trying to build your sales team online. Answer questions honestly, don’t be pushy, use your best manners, show respect and have a solid plan in place before you begin connecting online with your future sales team and you are sure to be successful.

How great to see that ethics are really important in the direct sales industry. It is all about the other person, their needs and how we can help them. The old quote” Do unto others…..” is so true. Thank you for your teaching contribution to our industry.
Bev I’m happy to see that you agree! It’s really all about serving and helping others.
Thank you for your wonderful comment.
