Do you remember having to write stories when you were in school? It may have come easily for you and you enjoyed it or perhaps it was a task you struggled with and tried to avoid. If you are like me, you probably never imagined writing would be a skill you would need and use for your business. So, if you have a web site or are doing business online here are some tips for using that skill you never thought you would need.
First, write for your visitors, the people who read your web copy. There is an incredibly enormous amount of information available on the Internet and web users are faced with numerous sources of information about virtually any topic. This means that your web copy must be attention-getting and relevant to attract visitors. Once the visitor has landed on your page and decided that it is worth looking at, the information they are looking for must be there, again in order to prevent them from leaving to find it elsewhere.
So, getting and keeping your visitor’s attention during their initial visit is important. It is also vital to keep them coming back. Whether you are selling products or bringing in advertising revenue, giving users an incentive to return is vital. This can be accomplished by doing things such as adding new content frequently, offering special reports and encouraging them to sign up for your mailing list.
Next, write for the Search Engines. The mighty search engines are wonderful tools that index web pages and allows users to search for information online. They display search results in order of relevance which is determined by each search engine’s own algorithms.
With the advent of search engines came the opportunity for your web pages to get more traffic but only if they could be found easily in search engine results. So webmasters began adding keywords to their writing so that the search engines would recognize them as a good source of information about those particular words.
However, as the search engines have become more sophisticated it is necessary to use your keywords in a natural manner. While making keywords invisible by making them the same color as the background once worked, search engines now penalize pages that use that technique. Overusing keywords can also cause your site to be ranked lower and it makes the writing flow poorly.
The Internet has a wealth of information to offer its users and you can be a part of it. Getting visitors and keeping them coming back to your site requires you to get them there, get their attention and keep them interested. When writing for the Internet you’ll want to takes these things into consideration while giving visitors the information they came looking for.

you know i thought writing for the se was a good idea, but what use is it if your pages to go the supplemental index? it can be very frustrating spending hours on a post, only for it to go supplemental in a few days and dissapear from the se!
Yes Martin, that’s why I suggest you always write for people first. When people find good content that’s relevant to what they are looking for on your web site they are more likely to come back.
If someone clicks through to a web page from a SE and then immediately hits their browser’s back button or leaves, where do you think that page will be listed?
Don’t worry about the SE too much, focus on writing good quality information for your visitors and with time your traffic will grow.
Hello, While doing research for my son’s speech class for college (he is swamped with homework) I found your article. I enjoy reading it very much. Frank’s speech in on Network Marketing. I have been a networker for years and have a website, but never had much luck with placement with the search engines. The company I am with now, Giblink is such a blessing to people, I would love for folks to learn about it. They do not have to recruit anyone to be successful with this company. In just the last 3 or 4 weeks my son and I have earned $900 with only a $50 investment. I had to refer 2 people at the $50 level, but for those who come in at $150 there is no referring. This is wonderful for people like myself who has trouble speaking, health problems. Once again, thank you for your article, I learned from it. Carol

You’re most welcome Carol, glad you learned something from my article. There is so much to learn when marketing your business online, simply putting up a web site with a few pages, thinking they will find you and join on your opportunity doesn’t work very well. There is much more involved.
Remember this is a relationship business, your site is the first step in building a relationship with your visitor/prospect and needs to answer their questions or provide the information they are searching for.
nice information, thanks
Hi Les. Thanks for the compliment and the nice review on your own site. I’ve left you a comment as well.
Glad to hear you found my content interesting, after all that’s the whole point, to write something someone will find interesting!
You’re most welcome News Archives!
Great post…it’s true how lots of people write for search engines first without realizing people are the success behind a website. You need to focus on the end user, then search engines. Have to remind ourselves of this as I get swamped with thoughts of SEO
