If you are in the direct sales industry you may have discovered there are many interesting and fun ways to generate leads, both for customers and potential recruits. Traditionally, direct sellers marketed their products through the home party plan method, and many of us still work this way today for good reason.

Home parties are fun as well as a profitable way to run your business. Most direct sales companies give free products or some type of incentive to anyone who hosts a party. When you share this benefit at a party, you will be apt to find people in attendance who are also willing to host a party of their own. This supply of new hostesses keeps you in business and in front of new customers. I’m not sure about other companies but Watkins covers the cost of all the host gifts which mean more income and less expenses for me. (or YOU too, if you’d like to join us!)
Did you know that the home party can also be a great way to find potential recruits? During the product demonstration you simply give out some information about the business opportunity and see if anyone’s face lights up with curiosity. As your demonstration is ending and guests start to mingle, you can talk personally with those that seemed interested in the opportunity.
Your current customers can also serve as an excellent source for potential parties, recruits and referrals. You already know that your past customers like your company’s products. So, by calling your customers and letting them know this month’s booking special, you may be able to book several parties.
Some of your customers who order on a regular basis may not want to work the business as a business, but they might like to join the company as a consultant in order to get a discount. By sharing this option, you may find yourself with several new recruits. I myself started out as a “wholesale shopper” and ended up developing a real business.
If a current customer does not want to join your company or book a party, you should still ask them if they know anyone else who may be interested. Your loyal customers might be quite happy to give you the names of several people.
Technology has enabled us to conduct business with people from all over the country as well as internationally. You can advertise your business on a variety of websites including forums. This can generate leads for both your products and your business opportunity.
One of my favorite ways to find leads is to set up a booth at a trade show, craft fair or women’s expo. This is a really great way for you to meet potential customers and recruits.
Last but not least, hang fliers on your local bulletin boards. Include your business cards or tear off strips with your phone number. You’ll want to post new fliers every month.
As you can see, by drawing upon the traditional party plan model and combining that with modern methods of publicity, you can bring a constant supply of new leads into your business.
