			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When your first start your own direct sales business your excitement and enthusiasm really gets you going, but it becomes a lot harder to keep yourself going when things get a bit more challenging.  Following are ten tips to help you stay committed to your direct selling business.</p>

<p>1.  Set goals.  Without goals, there’s really not much reason for you to be in business.  If you want to stay focused and committed to your direct selling business, <a href="http://melodythacker.com/index.php/2007/07/19/how-to-set-goals-for-your-direct-sales-business/">you need goals to act as a road map for you to follow.</a></p>
<p>2.  Keep your goals front and center.  You started your business for a reason.  You need to keep that in mind so you don’t get weighed down by the day-to-day of your work.  Keep little pictures or other memorabilia around that remind you of why you’re doing this is the first place.  </p>
<p>3.  Be flexible.  In direct sales there’s not a one-size-fits-all method to success; you might have to try a lot of things before you find what’s right for you.  The key is to be flexible and willing to try new marketing methods when things aren’t working for you.</p>
<p>4.  Persistence and patience.  While you may want to change tactics when things aren’t working, you can’t give up on everything so quickly.  You have to be willing to keep trying and keep going, even if things don’t go well at first. Some things just take time.</p>
<p>5.  Have fun.  Direct sales is all about having fun while earning money. We all want to do things that are fun, and try to avoid things that aren’t.  Make sure the avenues you pursue are not only profitable, but enjoyable for you.  If there are aspects of your business that isn’t as much fun, try turning it into a game, just like you probably do with your kids to get their chores done.    </p>
<p>6.  Find supportive people.  It’s a lot easier to stay committed to something if there are people on the sidelines cheering you on.  Take time to talk to people who are supportive of your business, especially your upline leaders.  If you don’t have any leaders who are available, try finding <a href="http://www.dswa.org/1.html?w=DSWA&#038;p=thacker">people like you online</a> and at local networking groups so you can encourage each other.   </p>
<p>7.  Get help.  If you’re like most people, you probably think you can get your direct selling business going on your own.  And if you’re like most people, you probably can’t.  Starting your own business is a big job, and it’s perfectly normal to need a little help or guidance.  Find an upline mentor who has already been successful in your direct sales team to coach you and give suggestions.  They will also be a constant reminder that what you’re trying to do is achievable.</p>
<p>8.  Review what you’ve done.  If you’re feeling like you want to give up or just feel beaten down, take out a pen and paper and write down what you’ve accomplished since you started your business.  Even if it’s just little stuff, write it down.  By the time you’re finished you’ll probably feel better realizing how much you’ve accomplished.  Then keep the list and review it and update it every so often to keep yourself going. </p>
<p>9.  Expand yourself.  You’ve probably found that when you have a new idea or project, you get very excited about it.  Try to constantly expand yourself by going to seminars, reading ebooks, getting newsletters, and doing other things to keep yourself coming up with new ideas and getting new projects.  The more new things you do, the more excited you’ll be about just doing your work.</p>
<p>10.  Be positive.  A positive attitude goes a long way in <a href="http://melodythacker.com/index.php/2008/01/23/staying-motivated-in-your-direct-sales-business/">keeping you motivated in your business.</a>  Take steps to keep yourself looking on the bright side of life and work and it will be easier to keep yourself going.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I always try to teach my team members that goals are very important when it comes to the success or failure of their business. So are you wondering, <em>&#8220;Why are goals so important?&#8221; </em>It&#8217;s simple, your goals act as a roadmap for you to follow. They let you know where you are going, how to get there, and if you are getting there on time. You wouldn&#8217;t get in your car and start driving without having a destination planned out, so why would you approach your business that way? </p>

<p>Your goals should define what you are trying to accomplish and when you want to accomplish it by. Goals should be realistic and there should be a way to measure them. All goals should be written down and available for you to review on a regular basis. Simply writing the goal down will significantly increase you odds of achieving it and having it displayed as a visual reminder will also help motivate you.<span id="more-75"></span></p>
<p>Even if you have never taken the time to set goals for your business before, you are probably very familiar with the process. I bet at some point in your life, you have more than likely taken out a pen and paper and mapped out a plan for accomplishing some type of task. Writing out goals for your business isn&#8217;t much different than writing out your shopping list.</p>
<p>Clearly define your goal, this way you are telling yourself where you are going. For example, instead of having a goal of &#8220;I plan to spend more time promoting my Direct Sales business&#8221;, clearly define the goal as &#8220;During the next three weeks, my goal is to spend 10 hours per week promoting my Direct Sales business&#8221;. As you can see, the second goal tells you what you are going to do and for how long you are going to do it.</p>
<p>Okay, so now that you know where you are going and when you want to be there, you can figure out how you are going to get there. Using the example above, you know that for the next three weeks, you need to be spending 10 hours per week promoting your business. Next you can start defining mini-goals, such as finding sites to advertise online, e-mailing past customers and hosts to tell them about new products, or ask for for bookings, setting up at public events, and so forth. </p>
<p>You&#8217;ll also find that goals can also serve as a great way to challenge yourself. Are there some things you have been meaning to do, but keep putting off? Start setting weekly challenge goals, such as making phone calls, posting at message boards or forums, writing ad copy or finding new public events to set up at. </p>
<p>Make setting and achieving your goals fun, reward yourself with a big check mark or a gold star when you accomplish one of them. Once you have collected 10 gold stars, why not treat yourself to a nice dinner out or some other indulgence? By setting and achieving goals you will see your direct sales business taking off. The best thing is you will feel a great sense of enthusiasm and accomplishment.</p>
